Interview with Ann Smarty – ThatsSEO
Before I launch my blog I have decided to interview prominent SEO experts on a weekly basis in my blog. To start up it would be one of my favorite SEO blogger – Ann Smarty. I should say that various posts of her have inspired me to a great extent of publishing my own blog. So I have decided that she will be right person to start with.
Let us move the topic now
Small introduction about yourself to the people who are unfamiliar about you?
I am Ann Smarty, a native Ukrainian (was born in the Crimea at the Black Sea), currently struggling my own way as an independent SEO consultant. I am blogging regularly Search Engine Journal and also update my own blog from time to time (Seo Smarty).
Your favorite firefox plugin?
A few of them
I regularly use Search Status, SEO Quake and also Wizz RSS to keep track of my blog subscriptions (which are numerous by the way).
Your favorite SEO tool?
I love using Xenu for internal diagnostics, I also daily use Yahoo Site Explorer and Google advanced operators. All in all, I have a huge list of SEO tools I use from time to time.
What are your favorite 5 SEO blogs?
- Search Engine Journal because that’s has become my home;
- SEOmoz because that’s a community of smartest people I know (and also that’s the place where I started to learn);
- SEroundtable because that’s where I find all SEO and webmaster forum news and discussions;
- SEO Book because I love smart people
- SEO ROI because Gab keeps posting unique stuff.
One thing that you hate in SEO?
None! If I do something, I love everything about it – otherwise I can’t do it well.
Tell us something about seosmarty.com
I started Seo Smarty just to have some fun. I didn’t plan to become an SEO blogger. When I returned to Ukraine, I felt bored and just wanted to do something. Thanks to that blog, I can now call myself a blogger and I love being one by the way!
How long does it take for you to complete a post?
It depends… on the post itself, on my mood, on working conditions, etc, etc. Normally it takes one day to complete two posts. But I always return to what I’ve written after a few days pass to make some edits.
After how many rounds of review you suggest a tool/plugin?
I usually review a tool which I’ve been using for at least a couple of days. If I don’t think I will be using it afterwards, I still review it as other people might still find it useful. I don’t call myself an expert and thus seldom criticize, just listing the features leaving for the readers to decide.
A screenshot of your browser?
Why not?

You prefer Ann Smarty / SEOsmarty?
Ann Smarty or just Annie… SEOsmarty sounds like I am boasting or something
The domain was picked up for fun and it also gave me my second name in SEO industry. Ann is my real name, so definitely prefer it.
Simply Smart

Raghavan, why are you nofollowing all your external links? Also, if you wanted to control internal PR flow more effectively, why not nofollow the links to your tags. You’re cannibalizing yourself by having an SEO tag and an SEO category..
@Ann – Thanks for the compliment – you know it’s mutual and what I like most about your writing
.
@Gab – The nofollow is because of plugin deactivated that.
Awesome, thanks.
